USB/Serial Adapter Installation Issues
For most (nearly all) users, running the RaceManager installation file automatically and successfully installs the USB/Serial Adapter Driver software at the same time. But most is not all and for those who cannot successfully install the Adapter Driver life is very frustrating. We believe that the steps listed below will solve those remaining issues. Given the wide variety of operating systems called Windows only time will tell.
- Unplug the USB/Serial Adapter from the computer. SuperTimer II is not required or useful at this time.
- Pick a driver from the following list:
- Run the USB Driver file that you downloaded. If it asks to remove a previous driver, do so then then run the Driver file again to install the new Driver. Continue until the program completes.
- Plug in the Adapter and check the message in the lower right corner of your screen. The message MUST indicate that the computer SUCCESSFULLY found a serial port on ComX (X is any number from 1 to 20). If it did you are ready to connect SuperTimer II and run RaceManager.
-
If the adapter driver you chose doesn't work in your computer...
- Try a different driver. Again, you may need to run it twice, the first time to uninstall the previous non-functioning driver.
- If it still doesn't work, try the following and then start over.
Click "Start", in the "Search programs and files" box type the words "View Ad", then at the top click on "View Advanced System Settings", then click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Installation Settings" button. Check "No, let me choose what to do", then check “Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer.” Then select " Save Changes."
- Then start over with the driver installation.
